Background of the Department.

The department was established with the approval of BOG in its 74th meeting held in 2014 with the objective to offer training programs, diplomas, and Higher Education in Fatwa Studies. The Council of the Academy in its 14th meeting held in March 2019 decided to start it initially as the Department of Fatwa studies under the umbrella of the Department of Training, The department has so far conducted 17 training programs for Muftis under the flagship of the Training Department of the Academy.

Training Courses for Ulama and Muftis

The Department plans to conduct the following activities in the future :

  1. Law orientation Courses and seminars for Muftis.
  2. One year Post Graduate Diploma

In campus workshops/training courses /Islamic law orientation courses /seminars

This category involves training courses organized for Ulama and Muftis on the main campus of Shariah Academy, International Islamic University, (Faisal Masjid Campus). This series of courses for Ulama and Muftis started in 2011. The main courses conducted in these series were Law Orientation Courses, Islamic Banking, and Islamic Commercial Law course, Human Rights Law and International Responsibilities, etc. 10 such courses/seminars have been organized till date out of which 434 Ulama and Muftis have benefited from these courses.

Outreach programmes / training courses / Islamic law orientation courses/seminars

This category consists of various training courses and seminars conducted by Shariah Academy on the premises of seminaries throughout Pakistan. The courses covered in this series were Islamic Law orientation courses for Muftis, Modern era preferences in Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic Banking, and Islamic Commercial Law courses. This series of courses started in 2013. These courses were conducted in Jamia tur Rasheed  Karachi, Jamiah Dar ul Uloom Ghawari Skardu, Jamiah Nusrat ul Islam Gilgit, Jamiah Imdadiah Faisalabad, and Al Karam Institute Bhera. Shariah Academy conducted a total of seven such courses. 505 Ulama and Muftis got certification from these courses organized on their campuses.

These courses are organized by the Department from time to time.

One year Post Graduate Diploma

The department has launched a one-year diploma course.

The details of which are as follows:

Outline of the course

As per the standard practice of the University, there shall be a total of 6 courses, each of 3 credit hours, to be studied in two semesters as 3 courses per semester.

There shall be 3 Core Courses which shall be compulsory. 3 optional courses will be offered by the Department.

Core Courses

  • Adab al-Mufti
  • Legal System of Pakistan
  • Manahij Al-Fatawa

Optional Courses: The following courses to have opted as optional courses:

  • Pakistani Family Laws
  • Islamic Financial Laws
  • Fiqh Tibbi
