




A two-day course on Islam and International Humanitarian Law (IHL), organized by the Shari‘ah Academy of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), concluded at the university.
The closing session was attended by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Shuja Syed, President IIUI, and Mr. Christoph Sutter, Head of ICRC Delegation in Pakistan. Dr. Shuja emphasized the relevance of linking Islamic teachings with humanitarian law and shared updates on the Academy’s development plans. He also noted the recent recognition of IIUI’s academic role by the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Mr. Sutter highlighted the ICRC’s work and the value of its cooperation with academic institutions like IIUI. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of the Shari‘ah Academy, reflected on the long-standing collaboration between the Academy and the ICRC.
The course was attended by 42 students from universities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Topics included IHL principles, Islamic law of armed conflict, and protection of civilians. Sessions involved interactive case studies and were conducted by experts from academia and law.
